What You Need to Know When Driving a Rental Car
Whether you’re in need of a rental car because your car is in the shop, you’re on vacation, or on a business trip, Brandon Collision is here to help your future experience a good one. Before committing to a rental, there are a few things to note.
1. The Form of Payment
Most rental car companies will want the driver of the vehicle to pay with a credit card instead of a debit card. Having a card on file will give reassurance to the car rental company to run the card in case anything happens.
2. Driver’s License
A valid driver’s license should be presented at the time of rental in addition to the driver being 21 years of age or older. No temporary card is accepted.
3. Inspection of the vehicle
Look for anything that can be considered damaged inside and outside of the rental vehicle so that you are not charged. Make note of everything before leaving.
4. The Gas Tank
There are some rental companies that will offer to have the gas tank filled up for you for an extra fee. To save money, we encourage you to do this on your own. Before returning the vehicle to the rental company, fill up the gas station. We recommend locating a nearby gas station to avoid using any fuel.
5. Insurance
You will be offered car insurance at the car rental company but don’t accept until you are sure that your regular auto insurance doesn’t cover a car rental. There are also other options such as stand-alone policies for rental cars.
